About this deal

The national flag of Ireland (Irish: An Bhratach Náisiúnta), also known as the tricolour, is a vertical tricolour of green (at the hoist), white, and orange. The flag proportion is 1:2 (length twice the width). The green is representative of the older Gaelic tradition while the orange represents the supporters of William of Orange. The white in the centre signifies a lasting truce between the two cultures. The harp on the 1928 coinage was based on the Galway and Trinity College harps, whilst a much modified version was introduced on 1939 coinage, and the present Irish euro coins are largely based on this. It is the third-largest island in Europe and the twentieth-largest island on Earth. The flag is used within the unionist community, along with the Union Flag. A variation of the flag places the Union Flag in the Canton, and defaced with the red hand and the outline of a map of Northern Ireland on the Union Flag. It is also used to represent Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Games, the Northern Ireland national football team. The Coat of Arms of Northern Ireland was granted to the Government of Northern Ireland in 1924, after the Irish Free State had separated from the United Kingdom. In Gaelic bardic tradition Ireland is also known by the poetical names of Banbha (meaning piglet) and Fódhla. The tune was first called "Londonderry Air" in 1894 when Katherine Tynan Hinkson set the words of her "Irish Love Song" to it: countries of Europe) страна на Европа ( strana na Evropa ); Австрия ( Avstrija ), Азербайджан ( Azerbajdžan ), Албания ( Albanija ), Андора ( Andora ), Армения ( Armenija ), Беларус ( Belarus ), Белгия ( Belgija ), Босна и Херцеговина ( Bosna i Hercegovina ), България ( Bǎlgarija ), Ватикан ( Vatikan ), Дания ( Danija ), Естония ( Estonija ), Германия ( Germanija ), Грузия ( Gruzija ), Гърция ( Gǎrcija ), Ирландия ( Irlandija ), Исландия ( Islandija ), Испания ( Ispanija ), Италия ( Italija ), Казахстан ( Kazahstan ), Кипър ( Kipǎr ), Латвия ( Latvija ), Литва ( Litva ), Лихтенщайн ( Lihtenštajn ), Люксембург ( Ljuksemburg ), Северна Македония ( Severna Makedonija ), Малта ( Malta ), Молдова ( Moldova ), Монако ( Monako ), Нидерландия ( Niderlandija ), Норвегия ( Norvegija ), Обединено кралство ( Obedineno kralstvo ), Полша ( Polša ), Португалия ( Portugalija ), Румъния ( Rumǎnija ), Русия ( Rusija ), Сан Марино ( San Marino ), Словакия ( Slovakija ), Словения ( Slovenija ), Сърбия ( Sǎrbija ), Турция ( Turcija ), Украйна ( Ukrajna ), Унгария ( Ungarija ), Финландия ( Finlandija ), Франция ( Francija ), Хърватия ( Hǎrvatija ), Черна гора ( Černa gora ), Чехия ( Čehija ), Швеция ( Švecija ), Швейцария ( Švejcarija ) The island was inhabited until 1953, when the Irish government decided that it could no longer guarantee the safety of the remaining population. It was the home of three noted Irish writers: Tomás Ó Criomhthain, Peig Sayers and Muiris Ó Súilleabháin. Their works were all written in Irish, and have all been translated into English, as well as other languages. The homes of Tomás Ó Criomhthain and Muiris Ó Súilleabháin are now in ruins but the house in which Sayers once lived has been restored, and used to form part of the hostel which previously functioned on the island.Irish culture has had a significant influence on other cultures, especially in the fields of literature and, to a lesser degree, science and education. Alongside mainstream Western culture, a strong indigenous culture exists, as expressed for example through Gaelic games, Irish music, and the Irish language. The culture of the island has also many features shared with Great Britain, including the English language, and sports such as association football, rugby, horse racing and golf. Scots [sco] 100,000 in Ireland (1999 Billy Kay). Population includes 60,000 in Lallans, 30,000 in Doric, 10,000 in Ulster. Donegal County. Classification: Indo-European, Germanic, West, English Belarusian: Паўно́чная Ірла́ндыя f ( Paŭnóčnaja Irlándyja ), Паўночная Ірля́ндыя f ( Paŭnóčnaja Irljándyja ) ( Taraškievica ) When the Government of Northern Ireland was prorogued in 1972 the arms went out of official use. The grant has not been rescinded, but the arms are considered historical, as the body to which the arms were granted no longer exists and so cannot be used unless regranted to another armiger. Due to its unique history, the issue of the symbolism, name and description of Northern Ireland is complex, and similarly the issue of citizenship and identity. In general, Unionists consider themselves British and Nationalists see themselves as Irish, though these identities are not necessarily mutually exclusive.
