About this deal

Jacqueline Wilson wrote her first novel when she was nine years old, and she has been writing ever since. She is now one of Britain’s bestselling and most beloved children’s authors. She has written over 100 books and is the creator of characters such as Tracy Beaker and Hetty Feather. More than forty million copies of her books have been sold. After spending most of her childhood cooped up in the Foundling Hospital, Hetty is often confused, scared and in awe by the outside world. As she settles into her job, Hetty becomes a secretary of sorts to Mr. Buchanan, copying his stories as Mr. Buchanan's handwriting is hard to read. In return, Mr. Buchanan agrees to help refine Hetty's memoir, and to supply Hetty with stamps so she can continue to write to her mother. She also finds a potential love interest in Bertie, the local butcher's boy, who takes her out to the fair, on a boat ride, and for a walk in the park. Hetty also accompanies the parlourmaid, Sarah, to a seance with Madame Berenice, a medium. During the seance, an apparition of Hetty's long-dead foster brother, Saul, appears before Hetty, frightening her. In Chapter One, Hetty introduces herself by claiming that her christened name is not her real one. She declares that she can vividly remember when her mother left her at the Foundling Hospital, and wonders what she was originally called. She describes her sapphire eyes as her best feature, but that her most distinguishable asset is her red hair. Hetty asserts that she has as fiery of a nature as she does hair. Madame Berenice & Emily - A medium who holds séances. Hetty finds out that she and her sister, Emily, are frauds. Madame Berenice pretends to be possessed by the dead while Emily covers herself in a white veil, pretending to be a ghost.

Hetty Feather is the protagonist of the Hetty Feather book trilogy. She also appears in the spinoffs Diamond, Little Stars and Hetty Feather's Christmas, as well as Clover Moon and Dancing the Charleston. Born in London in 1876, Hetty is the daughter of Evelyn "Evie" Edenshaw and Robert "Bobbie" Waters. Robert did not know about this daughter because he went out to sea while Evelyn was pregnant. Evelyn was unable to raise her daughter alone, so she gave her to the Foundling Hospital. The Hospital named the baby "Hetty Feather", although her birth name is actually Sapphire Battersea. Sheila Mayhew - Hetty's enemy at the Foundling Hospital. She follows Hetty to Ida's room one night and as a result their secret is revealed and Ida is fired. Hetty: Oh, I don't know. Maybe foundling children are so starved of love they don't really know how to want to marry. Setelah menamatkan buku pertamanya Hetty Feather.. kini petualangan di buku kedua juga seru abis! Sampe bela2in baca ampe tengah fajar... walaupun tebel, ga berasa... saking serunya :)As well as winning many awards for her books, including the Children's Book of the Year, Jacqueline is a former Children's Laureate, and in 2008 she was appointed a Dame. Set in Victorian times, this book is about Hetty with her new name Sapphire Battersea. The name that was hers from the start. After leaving her horrid years at the Founding Hospital, she experiences a different new hard life being a servant girl. She feels more free being out of the hospital, but misses someone so much, planning her future right there and then. She travels a bit, and events lead her to the seaside. I found it so cool as she does ordinary things, but ages ago so it's quite different. Jem Cotton is Hetty's older foster brother, introduced in the title book. Sweet and caring, he is endlessly patient to those he loves, particularly Hetty, making sure to write to her consistently when she is in service and in the Hospital. Son of Peg and John Cotton, his profession is farming, taking over his duties on the village farm when his father died in Emerald Star. As well as winning many awards for her books, including the Children’s Book of the Year, Jacqueline is a former Children’s Laureate, and in 2008 she was appointed a Dame. Dogged Nice Guy: Nothing Jem can do can subdue Hetty nor make her love him. Hetty eventually devolves into Jem's very-own Love Martyr.

I think the characters in this book were excellently written, and I felt Hetty next to me, telling me about all the strange things and scary or funny happenings in her life. I felt Bertie telling me jokes, and Hetty raising her eyebrows.

Jem Cotton

Mr Charles Buchanan: Hetty's master and an author, described as looking and acting like a monkey. Hetty finds his stories to be painfully dull and unreadable. He fires Hetty after she accuses him of stealing her memoirs and trying to turn it into a story of his own under the title of Emerald Greenwich. Eliza - Hetty's younger foundling sister, who also believes that their older foster brother Jem is waiting for her.

Jem Cotton - Hetty's older foster brother. He waits for her outside the Hospital on the day she leaves but she is unable to converse with him. The two of them continue to communicate through letters.

Hetty yang selama ini di Foundling Hospital tidak pernah dipuji dan lebih sering dihukum, sangat senang ketika Bertie selalu memuji nya, entah itu rambutnya indah, matanya biru cantik, dll...
