About this deal

rolling resistance had gone up slightly. We didn't think much of it at the time as it was within the margin of error of the machine and possibly the inner tubes. After 1240 miles / 2000 km, the tires still look good but they have now lost their new tire look. The front tire looks best as the tread hardly wears. The rear 32-622 is now starting to show some wear in the middle of the tread. The tubeless GP 5000 is available in 25, 28 and 32mm widths, plus a 28mm wide 650B version. Our samples of the 25mm versions weighed an average of 302g each; we've seen reliable reports of 295g samples too. That's heavier than some comparable tubeless-ready tyres (a 25mm Schwalbe Pro One weighs about 255g) because Continental has gone for a fully tubeless construction with an airtight rubber layer on the inside.

In this updated version of our guide to Continental tyres we've added the new Continental Grand Prix 5000 S TR. With the AS TR, Continental has paired the speed of the Grand Prix 5000 and the longevity and protection of the Grand Prix 4 Season. The new tyre has a boosted tread pattern, multi-layer overlapping ply construction and additional sidewall protection - although from afar it looks very much like a "regular" GP5000. The rear tire also stretched a bit more and is now 32.6 mm wide on our 17C rim, inflated to 100 psi / 6.9 bars. Both of the tyres also include an updated version of Continental’s Vectran anti-puncture strip, with the new tyres claimed to be 20 percent less prone to punctures than the GP 4000 S II.If you're interested in how the 23, 25, 28, and 32 mm Grand Prix 5000 compare to each other, you can read our Grand Prix 5000 23, 25, 28, 32 Comparison special article. Also exciting is Continental finally entered the tubeless road bike tire market with a tubeless version of the GP 5000 which they conveniently named the Grand Prix 5000 TL ( read review). You can compare all test data of the GP 5000 and GP 5000 TL side by side on our comparison section here: GP 5000 Vs GP 5000 TL. Continental also claims puncture resistance has increased by 20%. Unfortunately, our tests indicate that puncture resistance of the GP 5000 has gone down when compared to the GP 4000. In both the tread and sidewall puncture tests, the GP 5000 scores 1 point less and comes in at a tread puncture score of 10 points and a sidewall puncture score of 4 points. Durability is hard to assess objectively, especially in the short-term – after all, it’s hard to account for occurrences such as small bits of glass strewn across the road – but, like the GP5000 TL, the GP5000 S TR retains a dedicated puncture protection belt beneath the tread. As mentioned, the tubeless version also adds an airtight liner. What tubeless wheels will the GP 5000 work with?

Of course, we're really interested in your opinion about the Grand Prix 5000 as well. Have you already used this tire and can comment on grip, durability, and real-life puncture resistance? Let us know in the comments. didn't help. The long time between the tests isn't optimal but I'll keep on going until at least 3100 miles / 5000 km with these tires. For this, I performed multiple test runs up a 2km climb with an average gradient of 5.7 per cent (a section of Burrington Combe, for those interested), at a target average power of 250 watts, and recorded the time taken to complete the 2km. The Continental Grand Prix 5000 TT TR is simply one of the fastest tubeless road bike tires on the market. Although the Veloflex Record TLR ( read our review) rolls even faster, that tire might be too thin for open roads. When we compare the 5000 TT TR with the Vittoria Corsa Speed ( read our review) and Schwalbe Pro One TLE TT ( read our review), we see it easily outperforms the Schwalbe Pro One TT and comes in almost equal in performance when compared to the Vittoria Corsa Speed TLR. That it’s already taken a victory at a brutal race such as Paris-Roubaix also indicates it’s more than capable of handling the rough stuff.Let's hope we've now reached the point where the tires stabilize and we see rolling resistance go down again as the tread wears down.

Rolling resistance of both the 28-622 and 32-622 has increased by 4 - 9 % depending on air pressure which is something that actually surprised us. We think most people expect tires The latter is based on a new-generation synthetic fibre that stands out for its low weight and offers 5 times more resistance to tearing than steel and 3 times more than bulletproof vests. Faster and Safer Cycling Tubeless: our patented carcass construction is robust and impervious against damage from foreign objects. The result : versatility, lower weight and a super-attractive design. With this design, tyres can be used both tubeless or with an innertube. The Aero-coach study goes into a great deal of detail. In short, with both elements considered, the GP 5000 clincher comes out top - 4.3watts improved over the 4000 at 45kph.

We attribute this loss to the deformation of the tire as it rolls. Storage alone doesn't seem to increase rolling resistance all that much. We'll run these for another 620 miles / 1000 km at which point we'll evaluate if it might be wiser to try another brand(s) to see if we see the same pattern with other tires as well. Vectran Breaker: Vectran is a synthetically manufactured high-tech fibre from a natural model. Like Inflated to 65psi / 4.48bar, the GP5000 S TR measures 28.4mm on the Hunt 54 Aerodynamicist wheelset (which has a 20mm internal rim width), whereas a GP5000 TL measures 28.6mm on the same wheels, at the same pressure. up 75% of all mileage is very easy on the tires as it consists of a lot of straight roads and no climbing. Continental claims the GP 5000 has a 12% lower rolling resistance when compared to its predecessor. Our tests confirm rolling resistance of the GP 5000 is actually even lower with a maximum of 18% less rolling resistance at the highest air pressure of 120 psi / 8.3 bars! At the lower air pressure of 80 psi / 5.5 bars, there is indeed 12% less rolling resistance according to our tests. In 1860 miles / 3000 km I still didn't have a flat tire which shows the Grand Prix 5000 has adequate puncture resistance for most people. A big part of this is probably that the roads are wellThe tubeless tyre is available in 25, 28 and 32mm widths — the idea of a 32mm tubeless tyre with GP 4000-like performance is a genuinely exciting prospect and this is one I’m really looking forward to trying out.
