About this deal

Written in an informal style, with tamed biochemistry, and well referenced so you can do further reading if you wish. I recommened this book to any teenagers or even adults who have self harmed or would like to learn more about it. I think some young, teen girls would enjoy this book, especially if they consider themselves alternative or are particularly interested in mental issues but I wouldn't really recommend this book very highly.

My thanks to Little, Brown Book Group UK and NetGalley for supplying a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. They are both fully-rounded and complex characters who are fiercely relatable and endearingly flawed. There are some interesting reflections on the impact of video nasties on key court cases at this time which is thought provoking. This is a frightening show of a class/culture divide in a society where the law stands for everyone!I learned that sometimes when lifes not going good and that when you talk to people about your problems helps more than keeping it inside you still have to strive for the best set your goals so you can become better than what you are. Sierra Leone has implemented a zero tolerance policy, where a girl cannot attend school if she has been cut. One fateful morning she woke up to find her boyfriend Markus Laird had been murdered as she lay asleep beside him. Although still maintaining her innocence, Millie has long given up on finding out what really happened and is going full steam ahead with her suicide plans.

Of the other inhabitants of 'Sick Minds', we get interesting snapshots, but are left wanting to know more. It was not a particularly showy or demonstrative moment, but still extremely effective to provide a 'right in the feels' reaction. I’ve been a longtime fan of Christopher Brookmyre, both of his Parlabane series and of his stand-alone novels. Perhaps, but beware - this is a book that will require you keep your wits about you, to be observant and to read between the lines. One of the chapters is titled ‘Plain Sight’ , an oblique reference to a series of carefully placed stage props: a hammer, a newly bought make-up kit, a wheelchair, the poster from that unreleased horror movie.

Hibo informs us that the police have dealt with many cases but the crown prosecution service refuses to take the cases further. Hibo herself expresses that she had a loving mother, one whom she loved more than anything else in the whole world. If you have personal experience of self-harm then it may not fufil all your needs and may leave you wanting more as it does not cover all aspects. In fact, as far as the reader is led to believe, her cutting is comparatively (to an extreme trauma victim's experiences at any rate) mild and her cutting doesn't last very long before she is sent to a hospital. Thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

It’s now that the skeletons in their respective closets start to rattle: the reasons for Millicent’s prior confinement is a lurking timebomb whilst Jerry’s lawbreaking past might be about to catch up with him.well, actually, you have to ask yourself what kind of sick mind derives gratification from seeing people being butchered. She speaks of the facts, that women who refuse to repeat FGM on their own children are shunned from their communities. That it is prevalent in 29 countries globally and how some young girl are dying from haemorrhaging, infection or shock. She does explain how it can be difficult to prosecute but also the factors that impact the legal system. But the flow, though complex and requiring the reader to swallow a couple of improbable coincidences, follows a logical enough path and ultimately the tale’s clever dénouement successfully ties off most loose ends.
