About this deal

Working through the puzzles in this book will add 100 points to your Elo rating if you are under 2000. I have spoken to many masters and experts of that generation that have happily used this book for problems. The positions are well chosen, and have the feel of real game positions that you could actually meet, rather than rare and unrepresentative curiosities. There are so many opportunities in chess missed or overlooked because of the blind valuation of the pieces, and this really helps you see past materialism to win in apparently even sutuations.

Any beginner who wants to improve their chess and take it to the next level should go through the book and solve the puzzles in this book thousands of times and defeating you at chess will not be easy for average chess players.and I get in more trouble for playing 'it almost works'; that kind of guessing is good for puzzles and a awful habit for games. minutes a day makes a good daily regimen and is virtually guaranteed to improve your play and your rating.

It has around 1500 tactical puzzles from actual Grand Master games, categorized by various themes, like annihilation of defense, discovered attack, pinning, clearance etc.Two books that I would recommend are "Chessercizes" by Bruce Pandolfini, and "Chess Tactics for Students" by John Bain.

if anyone has ever run 1001 through an engine; or can address whether you they make more sense when you are a tactics superhero- I'm interested. Other similar books are the Ultimate Chess Puzzle Book by Grandmaster John Emms, and Chess, 5334 Problems, Combinations, and Games, by Laszlo Polgar, the father of the famed Polgar sisters. So, the object of this book is to add to your knowledge, to make you a strong chessplayer, and (last but not least) to delight you with some of the most beautiful moves ever played on the chessboard. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Learn the 2-mover tactics from Polgar's big book COLD (there are about 1000 of 'em and they're not all obvious, at least to me!If you know the basic movements of chess and has the aptitude to continue playing, then this is a must have. As you emerge yourself in chess, you'll definitely look for other chess tactics books available, but still this is a good start. Most difficult are the examples that run seven moves and more; some of these may even stump an ordinary master.
